Jack is making a lot of friends in Barlick. I don't know why, maybe it's his face markings but people on the street feel the need to stroke him. Women in particular fall for him.
As you know, I had a bad experience with Joe, the lurcher from Irlam. I was very wary about taking another feral dog on but I'm beginning to think that Jack will make it as a member of the team. He's good at coming to hand when off the lead but I'm not saying he'd take any notice if he was distracted.
He's fast and very agile and seems to have lungs as big as a bucket, I haven't heard him pant as though he's out of breath even after a hard run. As for jumping, he's like a cat. Here he is on his favourite perch. Someone asked me the other day why I don't stop him doing it. It's easier to clean the drainer twice a day!
[This topic started as Jack's blog but in Jan 2008 I had to put him down because he started attacking strange dogs. His successor is Black Jack. a Patterdale pup, no point erasing Jack the Lurcher from history.... he was a good dog and what happened wasn't his fault. He had too bad a start.....]

It is 27 months since we lost Sam - I still fill up when I think of him or when I see another ShiTzu.

It's a loss Moh, just as bad as a human being. Only dog people understand that.

Stanley !...You were dead right about my new buddy Dexter....the place is revolving around him already (only got him on Wednesday) ....Must be a Patterdale trait..
Luckily we are too far away from town to have a problem with fireworks , although he did react a little to some pheasant shooting yesterday....He wasn't frightened , he just barked very loadly for the first time and made ME jump a foot !

You're right there Moh.... Brad, brace yourself, it gets worse. Always remember that terriers all think they ar nine feet tall! Jack had his firework strategy worked out last night. Straignt behind the sofa, occasional tentative forays into the open for a quick cuddle and scratch and then back in the bunker. Only one night to go with a bit of luck and we are expecting wind and rain so they should be over early.

Cathy, just because there was no specific response doesn't mean you are ignored.
Better night last night, very few fireworks. Jack stayed in my rocking chair when I went to bed and joined me in the early hours.

Sorry Cathy - I thought it was just a statement that did not require a response.

I was responding to Stanley's words 'Only dog people understand that.', re meaning the loss of an animal. It was a quick response saying all animal people (cat included) feel the loss. I thought people on here who have other types of animals (to dogs) might have put a word in. No harm done.

Dog people, cat people, horse people----it is all the same. It is one of the penalties of letting these wonderful animals into our lives.
