As to moving the power from the sath..i once went to a talk on global warming (dahn sath as it happens) and was the only person in the room who reacted with spontaneous laughter when the speaker said solemnly..if the Thames barrier were to fail the whole of the south of England would end up under water.....
It is a serious consideration though...perhaps it would be forward thinking to move things north a bit, just in case!

Bruff, When it snowed here the other day my Dad went out at about 8.30am and swept the snow from the front and back of his house. What makes it interesting is....he's 90 years old! He lives in a bungalow which has a big front garden and back garden. But he was brought up in a terraced house and you swept your bit of the flags. You probably also swept your bit of the back alley too because so many folk went to work via the back alleys (you only went out front when you had your Sunday best on!).
Belle, geologists will tell you that the south of England is sinking as the British Isles recovers its level from the Last Ice age. So London is on its way to being below the waves already!

London will flood as sure as the sun rises, all the experts are agreed on this. The TV film 'Flood' was an overblown but accurate representation of the truth.
Many years ago there was s seious intent to move government departments out of the capital. Someone saw a big area of land served by a new Mway. It was Saddleworth Moor. The word is that when they looked at the weather and lack of wine bars they ditched the idea.
I always clear my snow and pinch salt to grit it. PS, no heavy snow yet in Barlick, lying between 500 and 1000 ft up in the Pennines. I see some councils are running out of salt. Did you hear the man on the radio last night who said his mine had 100,000 tons in stock ready to roll? His grandad told him he should always have a stock pile because sooner or later it would be needed. Good lad!
Carole Thatcher sacked for using 'gollywog' in private conversation, contrast with J Ross..... Report that queen's souvenir shop at Sandringham has removed all gollywogs from the shelves. The world has gone mad........

An hour later I have to report that hearing shock horror reports of traffic on the M25 moving normally and two inches of snow in Bristol says more about people sitting in warm studios in London than current news. Just had a man on saying that there could be a foot of snow somewhere...... Really!

Stanley it's move from " could " to " being " a foot of snow in Aberdeenshire. Noticed again on the met office forecast last night, dual depth of snow in metric & imperial. I think they believe we can't imagine the depth in metric measurements.

The PC Brigade reckon it's progress, Stanley. The BBC are prepared to promulgate and reward filth but pounce on what was probably a mere slip of the tongue.

Frank, that's because they're all youngsters and can't imagine the depth in imperial measurements!
Ted, instead of banning words we should be teaching people that they don't need to get worked up about being called names. Folk have got very sensitive now. Mind you, most of the fuss is among the media types as usual!

I couldn't believe it when Val told me it was Jo Brand who was offended. That Filthy Mouthed Individual who spouts filth under the guise of Comedy. It does begger belief

Gollywog - we shouldn't be worrying about the words themselves but how they are used. We let a minority of people use them to convey their hate - by dropping them from our speech we give in to those people and make things worse.

I for one am more than happy when they announce measurements in both metric and imperial - likewise temperatures in Fahrenheit & Celsius. All this new stuff came after I left school and, whilst I can fairly accurately mark out feet/ inches/ yards by eye, metric means little to me. so whilst some people can readily imagine 15cm or whatever, please spare a thought for numbskulls like me who can't.. Fair to say as well, the more they give both, the more you come to be able to convert it in your head and ultimately to be able to visualise it without having to convert it first.

Perhaps we better change the name of teddybears..it might be offending those called Edward!
Then there are inflamatory terms like Vandal..someone somewhere must be descended from them..

The UN (is the U for useless?) has found that Canada is guilty of mistreating Aboriginals (if we spend anymore on them they will simply close the casinos and live totally on the tax dollar), the UN also reports that we "should treat refugees and immigrants better". I wonder if the UN has looked at the Sudan and Sri Lanka, among others, lately?
A report today that police in Gaza seized food and blankets destined for the needy, when will these people learn?
Multiple deaths in a bombing in Pakistan.
But oh yes Canada treats refugees and immigrants badly! Let's solve that problem by simply not admitting them, giving them free medicare, welfare payments, furnished apartments at subsidized rents etc., or we could just kill them off like their countries of origin do. When a man like Khadafi ends up chairing a UN commission on human rights the whole UN becomes an expensive joke.
