New Year, new topic. If you want to see the old one do a forum search for same title but 2008.

You can buy a secondhand facsimile editon of "Poverty and Public Health" for £5 plus postage on Abebooks.
The second Obama oath seems a fuss but it's needed because he's had to face an enormous amount of conspiracy theorist activity on the Internet. Just do a Google search and you'll find there are loads of web sites trying to claim all sorts of things about him, including that he would not say the oath (and that was being said before the inauguration).
UK defence at the mercy of Microsoft Windows again! Now they've got infected with the "Conficker worm". HMS Ark Royal is suffering it. An MP says he's been told by a defence official that some email from RAF stations is being re-directed to a Russian internet server. I dug out my March 2005 edition of a computer magazine where it was warning that we would regret switiching the navy to what they called "Windows for Warships". The US navy had trouble from using Windows software but avoided much of it because most of its computers were on Unix.

I might buy another copy. Mine was Lloyd-George's personal copy complete with bookplate. I gave it to Steve Constantine just to see his face light up.
Don't understand the 'confiker' worm stuff. I looked it up on McAfee and they reckon they have it covered. Don't these people use things like anti-virus programmes?

Apparently a lot of it got passed via USB sticks - you know, the things they leave lying around! The trouble is whenever a new malicious bit of software like this comes out it will always get some computers before the anti-virus people can catch up.

That sounds like a sneaky way of attacking him to me. They might contain disturbing concepts though.

Might be something to do with the pound being very weak against the dollar in which oil is traded. I wonder if this is why Heinz tomato soup is now 85p per can in Tesco, as we are weak against the Euro too. Still don't worry, Gordon will sort it out.........

We noticed Diesel prices yesterday 99.9p per litre at Tesco. Also noticed all the Beer Special Offers have gone from Tesco as well.

The price of canned tomato soup probably has more to do with the price of tomatoes.......

Yesterday the European Courts finally got the rest of the EU (the UK already acted) to drop the PMOI (The peoles Mujaheed of Iran, the only opposition to the Iranian government and Mullahs) from the terrorist list. This leaves the US and Canada (sheep) that still list them. Many of my Iranian friends here were celebrating last night, they have been working tirelessly for this to happen. It is interesting to note that the group like Iraq and Iran were originally armed by the USA, and since "disarmed" by the USA. The group's treatment has been dictated by the Iranian government that continues to fund all sides in the Middle East or anywhere that can cause trouble for the West and Israel.

"...originally armed by the USA, and since "disarmed" by the USA." This sounds like our Prime Minister getting us into the credit crunch and now promising to save us from it!
Fuel oil from our village syndicate has dropped by 3p a litre in the last week.

Did you here the Mighty Godron on the radio today batting away every crticism that Evan Davies put to him? Talk about brass neck. At one point I told Evan that he was flogging a dead horse, what he had on his plate was a Calvinist who knows he is infallible! Talk about criticising the Pope for the same thing! I really do think Godron is blind to the reality, that it's no good keeping going with the not me guv defence, it's time for some honesty and weeding out of the failed finance men he has put in charge of efforts to rectify matters in the banking system, read this week's Private Eye, it's the equivalent of a con-trick.

PS. Little Darling says the economy is deeper in recession than most people were predicting. Translation: Deeper than he was predicting, ie. He was wrong.
I know that most people will have realised that without me pointing it out but some may have missed it. Sort of an oblique confession.
I heard a very sensible man on the radio today making Portia's point, that we are concentrating too much on the downside of what is happening. Like all clouds there is a bit of a silver lining, the recession will weed out some of the rot in the system and perhaps bring our aquisitive society up short for a while.
