Original reports were all quite localised to little pockets...news crews couldn't venture far from generators. Some were using iphones and Scype to relay reports as all power was down. Gradually reports of those greatest hit came through. No loss of life discovered yet, though some communities are still cut off due to flood waters or swollen creeks. Over 10,000 people in emergency/ survival shelters all survived. Three babies were born overnight...one in a shelter. Some smaller coastal towns were flattened. Although the cyclone has almost burnt itself out, winds and rain will continue South West. I heard that flooding will likely occur in the Flinders Ranges (where we spent Christmas in 39 degree heat, dust and flies). South Australia's southern coastlines will experience aftermath and possible flooding rains also. It was a 'BIGGIE'.

Lovely here at the moment, blue sky, sun and a gentle SW breeze - the calm before the storm??

7pm last night strong wind and heavy cold rain. 4am this morning wind dropped but heavy cold rain. Has it rained all night? Glass has fallen to 29" and it is still a nasty morning. Definitely good writing weather!

Still wind and rain. Butts Beck higher than I have seen it for over two years, roaring over the cill of the weir in Valley Gardens. Did a quick calculation in my head and it came to about 1500 gallons a second. That's a lot of water!
Glass is 29", breezy and wet again. 'February Fill Dyke' is living up to its name.

We haven't heard much of the aftermath of Queensland, meanwhile here we have had structural damage in scotland with winds that took the roof off a block of flats and several overturned lorries

Comrade, Jack hesitates at the door but then the brave little soul plunges in. He keeps warm and enjoys it. Loves a good rub down with a rough towel before his sleep. His coat has flattened out over the last few days and he shines like the tocaps of a soldier's boots!
29", windy and still raining. No sign of webbed feet yet but getting close. Butts Beck is roaring, glad we are near the watershed! Must inspect the trash grate in Clough park.
