Doesn't seem 5 minutes since they built that place ! I was living a couple of miles awayat the time ......The beer drinkers in the area were very upset that the old Brewery in the centre of Reading was closed down in favour of this plant , which strated to produce Keg Beers , while "Best" and "Directors" production moved to Bristol( I think) It tasted awful for a while thereafter , and Reading never smelled the same again. (early to mid '70's )

The best way to see Reading is in your rear view mirror,

Trust you to point that out! Ahh, the Tirfor! Did any of you ever come across the Trewella winch? A ratchet winch that was the predecessor of the Tirfor. I first saw one when two old blokes from Heckmondwyke turned up at West Marton in the 1960s to drag a 35 ton bottle washer out of the dairy. Very impressive, all they needed was a good ground anchor in the shape of a big tree on the bank near the bottle dock, some drybollick jacks and more sleepers than you could poke a stick at for packing. They turned up in a Morris Minor pickup and everyone laughed. We soon stopped!

If you get a chance Swifty, have a pint in The Bull at Arborfield Cross...They kept my pewter tankard for over 25 years behind the bar after I'd left and moved to Derby .... I Collected it in 2007 ! (or it might have been 2006)

I must be old, the first thing I thought when I heard Stoke City were in the Final was Stanley Matthews. Remember those shorts? And what would he be paid, a tenner a week?
